Head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), Ali Akbar Salehi, made the visit to Fordow village on occasion of anniversary of Sacred Defense Week and met with families of four martyrs and appreciated sacrifices of war veterans.
On the sidelines of his meetings, the officials recounted on etymology of ‘Fordow’ as the name of a fuel enrichment plant explaining that “when the idea was formed to establish a nuclear site near the holy city of Qom, the name of ‘Fordow’ was approved at proposal of Major General Firoozabadi in order to preserve the religious status of the city of Qom.”
“Fordow is now the world’s most famous village as US Presidents, who might not know many of American villages, are well familiar with Fordow,” he continued.
Salehi stressed that Fordow was a symbol of martyrdom, faith and patriotism; “additionally, Fordow’s nuclear facilities are a symbol of national authority.
A village with population of fewer than 3,000 people during Holy Defense years, Fordow deployed 1,000 soldiers to the frontiers of war. A total of 120 Fordow soldiers were martyred and more than 300 became war veterans, which is worthy of praise.
